Barcelona Middle School Energy Study

Alhambra Elementary District, Barcelona Middle School, will partner with USGBC to support Education, Sustainability, Conscious Respect and Efficient Resource Use through creation of a classroom energy usage study and conservation lesson for a district-wide “STEAMRollers” MakerSpace. Alhambra students need support for hands-on, multidisciplinary, high-tech to no-tech tools for our movable MakerSpace ‘STEAMRollers’ to enhance student understanding of sustainable solutions to energy management challenges, increase critical thinking skills and allow exploration of engineering solutions that create a greener school environment and improve their communities. With Green Apple Day of Service support, students from Barcelona Middle School Green Team will develop, purchase materials for, explore and learn with, implement and present their findings of an energy study that utilizes timers for charging of classroom laptop and notebook carts, among other tools. With teacher support, students will create an energy conservation lesson based on their findings that will become part of the district-wide "STEAMRollers" MakerSpace. Barcelona students will create a presentation to share their experience with other schools within AESD.
