Garden Rehabilitation + Accessible Bed Construction

June 11, 2018

The school had an existing raised bed garden with six prefabricated plastic beds which haven?t held up over time. The existing gardening program was functioning well but the goal with this project was to construct one accessible raised gardening bed and master plan for the replacement of the existing five raised beds with new long-lasting gardening beds. Teachers also wanted to ensure that everyone in the school could participate. Some issues with the existing beds that they wanted to solve included the close proximity of beds, unsturdy plastic material, and so on.

More impact of project

The intention of this project is the bridge students to the processes of growing food from seeds to harvest while also connecting them to the natural environment. Students will be working together to plan, plant, harvest, and eat food once it has been grown. This will also allow students to learn lessons on leadership and teamwork while increasing environmental stewardship.
