Innovate and Create... with Fish! Aquaponics

October 20, 2017

Our second year as a Project Based Learning - "STEAM" school has been off to a great start, thanks to the hydroponics station we earned last year; this year we would like to kick it up a notch, and add an aquaponic station for students to compare and contrast the plant growth cycles in a creative way!
Students will research the cultures of Ancient China and India, including their art and farming systems. As they learn, they will compare and contrast herbs grown with, and without fish in hydroponic and aquaponic systems. As an art component, students will be provided tools that they might not otherwise have access to, to create art pieces using watercolor, batik, and tie dye methods on a shirt they can keep as a memory of the unit and the year. Research for the project begins in the classroom at the end of October, and we anticipate converting the hydropnics sytem in early December. Thank you for your support!
