International Day of Peace Service Day

September 21, 2018

Our entire school participated in service projects to celebrate International Day of Peace on September 21, 2018. The day started with students donating snacks to Littleton Promise, an after school tutoring program for immigrant children in our local community. During our all school assembly celebrating peace day and our National Green Ribbon Award, the donated items were placed into a large peace sign on the floor of the gym. Following the gathering, each class participated in a service project for the afternoon. The pre-kindergarten students wrote notes to the students at Littleton Promise and straightened up the school's meditation path on campus. The kindergarten and 5th graders delivered baskets to the schools' neighbors to thank them for their ongoing support of Mackintosh Academy. The 1st and 2nd graders worked at our adopted neighborhood park to clean up litter and rid the area of invasive weeds. The 3rd and 4th graders went to our local nature center and helped collect and redistribute milkweed seeds as part of a greater conservation effort along the South Platte River. The 6th, 7th, and 8th graders worked in the school gardens, greenhouse, and compost to prepare for winter. All in all, it was a very productive day celebrating the International Day of Peace through service.
