Middle School Buckthorn removal

7th and 8th grade students at Carleton Washburne partnered with the Backyard Nature Center, a not-for-profit organization that advances and enables the process of connecting children and adults with the wonders of nature in the New Trier Township. Representatives from the BYNC came into the science classroom to teach students about the history of the Skokie lagoons, and different invasive species taking over the local environment. During the Green Apple day of service, students picked up trash from the Skokie Lagoons, and removed different invasive species such as buckthorn, teasel, and garlic mustard.
