Qatar Eco-Schools Congress 2019

Qatar Eco-schools Congress 2019 is the first event in Doha to engage students from different schools to promote sustainability and green practices, exchange ideas and experiences, lessons learned. The schools attending the congress are either eco-schools with eco committee established or schools with sustainable initiatives, but all care about being more environment friendly and want to protect the planet. The aim is to create networking and inspire more students to join in a meaningful path towards reducing their schools negative impact on environment and empower students with knowledge and literature about environment and how they can lead change, set goals and work towards achieving them.
The congress will focus on four themes; Water, Energy, Biodiversity and Food waste. A workshop will run to collect feedback from students and identify areas of high concern under the four themes, what they like to see different at their schools! Professional Moderators will share with them their experience and how to overcome the challenges. The event will offer a hands on activity when it comes to food waste. QGBC announced the event as Zero food waste event. Good food will be donated in compostable containers with the help of students . Plates leftovers will be collected in compostable bags and sent to a farm for composting. At the end of the Congress a Climate Change March will take place as Qatar students support to UN Climate Summit 2019.

Students learned more about eco-schools and best practices from other eco-schools.
They shared their thoughts about how can they improve the environment at their school grounds specially under Energy, Water, Food and Biodiversity themes. The event by the help of students was a zero food waste event. Students were responsible about their food choices and the extra food was repackaged and portioned into small, compostable boxes and distributed to construction workers at Qatar Foundation immediately after the event.
