The Things Green Learning Center @Macy Intermediate will give school children the opportunity to receive hands-on classroom instruction with sustainable, environmental and urban farming skills. The state-of-the-art outdoor classroom will feature eco-friendly surroundings with a “green” curriculum counteracting a carbon footprint. The growing grounds are packed with workstations the students will use that provides many different real life options. Emphasis on critical thinking, environmental studies, work ethics (including a functional marketplace to sell product grown by students) plus science is the thrust behind the function of the grounds and curriculum. Students will learn and use the tools that makes a green footprint to include, but not limited to: developments in energy efficiency, water conservation and current gardening/urban farm trends. The studies will also focus under the banner of natural and organic growing.
