EcoLeaders

November 09, 2018

For our EcoLeaders project, 6 University of Nebraska-Lincoln students will present to five 5th grade classrooms about what it means to "go green," what happens to their trash, and the importance of conserving energy. We are also implementing a student role within the classroom called an "EcoLeader," who will be in charge of helping their peers reduce their environmental impact. Duties include shutting off the lights when the class leaves the room, making sure food waste and paper towels go in the compost bins, turning off electronics when not in use, and making sure recycling goes in the correct bins. We have put special compost bins in classrooms and placed stickers beneath light switches as a reminder to turn off the lights when leaving the room. All of this will be explained in the presentations so the 5th graders will be aware of what is being implemented and why it is important.
