If You Don't, Then Who Will?

March 15, 2019

In class, my students and I look for ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle. The children are cognizant of turning off the lights when they exit the room. They recycle paper, plastic water bottles, cans, and cardboard. We also have a worm composite in our classroom.
As Earth Day 2019 is approaching, I would like my students to discover ways to go green. Through various books, activities, and composting, my hope is that they will take an active role in preserving the earth. I would like my students to have the opportunity to reduce and reuse by providing them with a canvas bag for their everyday use. The children will decorate a canvas bag and use the bag at home. The fabric markers will also be used to refurbish stained shirts and decorate paper bags for special art and holiday projects.
I am looking forward to empowering my students with tools to encourage their family and friends to reduce or totally eliminate the use of plastic grocery bags and switch to reusable bags.
