Mobile Maps and Place-Based Crosswalks

May 31, 2019

This is a two part service project, between elementary and high school students. Working with art and computer science teachers, elementary students are designing and planning a site-specific crosswalk for school campus. This is happening on two elementary school campuses. The crosswalks reflect students' perceptions of the communities surrounding their schools, and their thoughts on their diversity, both human and biological. Students from the high school will use artifacts from the design process for the crosswalks, and interviews with the elementary students, to develop a mobile application. This application will connect both elementary schools' walk and bike to school routes to the diversity that students have uncovered through their crosswalk design.
